Mr. Wat kins is assistant treasurer and comptroller of the Mountain Re treat associaton. Mrs. Thomas Spence has re turned from a visit to her mother in Richmond. The Rev. and Mrs. Charles H. Pratt, D.D., of Louisville, Ken tucky, are in their summer home on Tennessee Road for a few days. The Rev. and Mrs. Charlie Miller, missionaries in Beirut, India, announce the birth of a son, Steven Alexander, on May 12. Mrs. Miller was before her marriage, Miss Virginia Yates, daughter of the Rev. O. F. 4 ates and the late Mrs. Yates, of Assem bly Drive. John L. Pursley of York, S. C., has purchased the Robertson place on Assembly Drive and plans to use it as a summer residence. The Christian Youth Fellow ship of Montreat college and Mon treat School for Girls will hold their annual joint meeting Sunday evening at seven-fifteen, May 23. They will have as their speaker, the Rev. Mark C. Patterson, pas tor of the Third Presbyterian church, Greenville, S. C. The Commencement address will be delivered by the Rev. Charles E. S. Kraenier, D.D., pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte on Monday morning, May 24. The diplomas will be presented to the graduat ing classes of Montreat College and Montreat School for Girls by W. H. Belk of Charlotte, chair man of the board of trustees. National Music Week was ob served at Montreat College by having two programs in the Chapel of Gaither Hall. All num bers were American compositions and were played bv Misses Ed wina Day, Gladys Goodman, Mary Caroline Dever. Joy Stevens, Betty Smith, and Betty Gibbs. The programs included works by Mrs. Crosby Adams, Nevin, Keeney, Guion and MacDowell. The Inner Choir sang four Negro spirituals, and Miss Charlotte Roth sang a solo by MacDowell. Miss Mary Lord is head of the music department. The choir was directed by Miss Woodhouse with Miss Dorothy Jean Sandefer as accompanist. Among those who will be at Montreat college for the com mencement week end are: Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Robinson of Rosehill, N. C., Mrs. Charles McLeod of Biscoe, N. C., Miss Marietta Bracewell and Miss Paige West berry of Radium Springs, Ga., Mrs. Lina Connell of Albany, Ga., and Mrs. J. V. Scarborough of Lake City, Fla., who will visit Juanita Connell, one of the grad uates of Montreat College. The Montreat College choir and the Inner Choir, with voice and piano solos will present a program of music in Gaither Hall the eve ning of May 21 at eight o’clock. The program will be under the direction of Miss Mary Lord and Miss Elizabeth Woodhouse. Dr. and Mrs. J. The show was under the sponsorship of Miss Helen Miles. Martha Barrett and Mary Lou Masters introduced the models. The dresses were made by the girls themselves, showing a variety of styles, even giving a preview of what will be worn by the well dressed college girl next fall. Those taking part were Joy Stevens, Ruth Fisher, Emily Cash well, Charolotte Bridewell, Clar issa Bridewell, Jane Van de Weghe, Alice Milner, Sanna Serio, Margaret Gomamo, Louise Gates, Ruby Morton. Katherine Bean, Mildred Farr, Betty Whittle, Eliz abeth Wilson, Sue Morrison, Myrtle Rorher, Virginia Wilson, Gilda Bower, Pat Cox. and Eleanor Edewaard. ON VACATION Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Nanney and children, Harry and Ted, left Saturday for a week’s vacation at Sullivan’s Island. They were ac companied by Mrs. Frank Hudson and the twins, Becky and Billy, who will go on to Georgetown, S. C. Mrs. Hudson's brother will meet them at Sullivan's Island.
